Tom Blackford's Y-block Fords

In the 50's and 60's Tom Blackford was a young auto parts salesman at Kelley Auto Supply in Owensboro, KY who raced his Y-block powered Fords at the Owensboro Drag Strip on Saturday nights. Around 1959, Tom had this great looking pair of '56 Fords. I never saw his C/Gas car run, but his Y-block powered BB/Altered (shown above) truly inspired me. With it's 312 cubic inch Y-block and dual quads under pressure from a McCulloch supercharger not only was it fast, but the unique supercharged Y-block sound that came from those short zoomie headers is something nobody could forget!
Tom went on to open his own parts store, Blackford's Automotive, and is still a hot rodder as an active member of the Sunset Cruisers car club in Owensboro
